The Death of Plato

The Death of Plato

I wonder in the end
if Plato realized
this old flesh
was more than just
the shadow of himself,
more than just
a flickering recollection
divorced from time?

Did his hand take
his flesh in hand
and feel the frailty
of human life,
the promise and hope
of something sweeter?

Did he wish
for all the flesh once knew
now that Spirit
shouted Triumph
and left his flesh behind?
